NEW ZEALAND WANTS 70 PER CENT. MORE APPEAL TO FARMERS "One of ' New Zealand's greatest needs in the coming season will be potatoes," said Mr R. A. 'Candy in the course of addressing a meeting of farmers' representatives held at Te Aroha West. "Fifteen thousand eight hundred acres of potatoes were planted last year, but if urgent needs are to be supplied 70 per cent more land must be sown." It had .been computed that at least 500 acres of potatoes would need to be grown in the Waikato, and the Primary -Production Council's first job was o find out what land and gear was available for this work. "This," said Mr Candy, "is where 3 T ou start work immediately. Find out how many spuds can *be grown in the imfediate district and what gear the growers want. This information is required in a fortnight's time."
It was later indicated that seed XJotatocs would be readily available and that the growers' interests would be covered by a. minimum price. Fertiliser Avas also being released i'or such work.
