WHAKATANE GOLF CLUB

FORTUNE CUP SEMI-FINAL

The honour to play in the final of the Fortune Cup was undecided at a previous contest between Anderson and Morpeth. So last Saturday "whilst the stormy winds did blow" these two players held another joist over 18 holes to decide the question. Age and experience versus youth and experience. With the conditions prevailing, Slice for one, did not give Andy a hope; it was all but for Rex. But golf is a funny game—it is never decided till the last putt is downed. So it happened last Saturday. Anderson won from Morpeth lup at the 18th. It was a tough match and the turning point in Anderson's favour came at the 17th. Morpeth was nicely on in 3 with a putt for 4 and Anderson sank liis approach for the 4. Morpeth missed the putt and lost the hole. Match now all square with 1 to go which Anderson won and thus gave liim the honour to play off the final after a 36 hole contest. He will thus meet Spence to decide the holder of the Fortune Cup for 1942. Lost Ball It would be just as well here to remind all players of rule about lost ball. A ball is deemed lost when it is not found after a search of five minutes. Player who loses the ball goes back to tec and plays his third stroke. If, after the ball has been given up as lost on expiry of the given time, it is found, the player in question still incurs the penalty and plays from tee his third stroke. If a player condones the action of another player in breaking the rules, they are both liable to disqualification. The rules of golf are many and the followers of the Royal and Ancient game are advised to refresh their minds periodically and thus keep themselves well up in the etiquette of the game. | Four-ball Best-ball Bogey I?* The rest of the club took part in a I Four-ball Best-ball Bogey. Only two cards were handed in, the rest being destroyed in favour of bogey. Reynolds! Cup Sectional In the play-off between Corbett and Bushctt, Bushett won.
