Art Union Success The fourth prize in the recently drawn "Black Cat" Art Union came fo Whakatane, the winner being ticket holder lollilo under the pseudonym "White Cat." The fourth prize money is £150. A further award in the £10 prize section went to "Happy Ending" Waimana, 79173. Farewell This Evening: The Dl.strict and Ladies Farewell Committees will make a formal presentation this evening at 5 p.m. in the Borough Council Chambers to Owen Brockett who leaves shortly for a South Island air station. The public is cordially invited to attend. Whitebait Season The whitebait season opened quietly on the Waikato River. Very few people ; tried their luck, and those who did were not well rewarded. A wholesale buyer who went down the river to purchase any whitebait offering got none. The heavy runs usually occur later in the season. Prislmaitic Compasses Wanted An advertisement in to-day's issue draws attention of the need for prismatic compasses lor use by the Rangitaiki and Whakatane Home Guard. Tippett of Hillcrest has presented us with a flower having a super-structure of no less than eleven miniatures. The second crown springs from the calyx as in the Auckland freak bloom, and the whole head gives the . impression of neat bouquet of gold.
