ALL PURPOSES APPEAL

MEN'S COMMITTEE MEETS - i MAKING SPECIAL EFFORT A meeting of the Wliakatane Borough Men's Patriotic Committee was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Wednesday evening at 7.30 p.m. to review progress of the house to house canvass, organised to raise £1800 towards the Borough quota of £2300. The chairman, Mr W. Sullivan, gave figures showing the result achieved to date : To the end of June the canvass had resulted in £634 heing collected from February when the scheme was first put into operation. The ladies' committee had contributed £594 ■ towards the £2300 required, thus leaving £1078 to be raised during the six months endring 31st December. It was decided to aslt canvassers to make a special effort doting the coming months to obtain slightly larger monthly donations, and it was estimated that if each, contributor on a monthly basis gave one half as much again per month as in the past months, the goal of £1078 by the end of the year would be in sight at the end of six months. It was arranged to scrutinise donation lists carefully each month, and it was felt that if the canvassers explained the position of the appeal to householders, additional amounts would be offered to enable"the quota to be filled.
