PATRIOTIC FUNCTION

SUBSTANTIAL SUM RAISED The function arranged by the Patriotic Committee and held last Thursday evening in the Waimana Hall, was a great success. The evening was spent in dancing, and a salestable and competitions were also popular, the sum of £55 being taken. This result was a great credit to all who helped and assisted toward the success of the function. Mr D. Boynton's orchestra supplied the dance music and Mr M. Burke obliged with an extra. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr and Mrs J. Wardlaw. The sales table did great business, Mrs Gallagher and Mrs T. Wardlaw being in charge. The articles donated for competitions were:— Electric reading lamp (donated by Mrs Hooper) won by Mr Cain. Dressed turkey (donated by Mrs J. Black) Avon by Mr C. P. Ryan. Bomber Bonds (donated by Mrs J. Ruff) Avon by Mr C. Burke. Goose (donated by Mrs Tuite) Avon by Miss C. Kalffe. Bantams 3 (donated by Mrs o>~ Kane) Avon by Mrs N. Eagle. Groceries (donated by Mrs King and Mr McConnell) Avon by Mrs Wylde and Mis F. Bell. Wine (donated by Mrs T. Wardr law) Avon by Mrs C. White. Rooster (donated by Mrs N. Clark) Sack of potatoes (donated by Mr A. Eagle) Avon by Mrs W. Addison. Bag potatoes (donated by Mr V. Miller); pig (Mr C. Wylde); chocolates (donated by Mrs Stevenson) Avon by Mrs N. Eagle. Monetary donations Avere received from Mr R. Morton, Mrs Jerram, Mrs Burnett, Mr Stevens, Mrs B. Wardlaw, Mr E. Addison, Mrs G. Hewitt, Mrs F. Bell, Mrs Curtain, Mrs H. Bell and Mir N. Eagle. After supper Mr J. L> Burnett, chairman of the Patriotic Executive Committee of the Whakatane County, thanked all for the Avonderful support given to make the function the success it had been.
