RACING NOTES
RE-COMMISSIONED The two year olds Royal Merit and Representative have again re- 1 sumed track work at Takanini in charge of trainer Fred Smith. The latter, owned by Mr W. S. Goos-t man, M.P., is considered to bo a very fine t3 r pe of Derby candidate, having size, conformation and qualIN WORK AGAIN After a spell sincc the midsummer meeting at Ellerslie, the speedy Golden Pay has been put into work again by F. Gilchrist. He is carrying a lot of surplus condition, but should not take long to fine down. There are few faster track gallopers than Golden Pay, but he failed to reach the. standard expected. He may do better with age. DOING WELL A recent addition to the track workers at headquarters is Camilla, the three year old daughter of Rulanut and Sterling Rose. This wellbred filly showed a good deal of promise in her races this season and has done well since last autumn. It would not surprise to see Camilla on the winning list early in the new season. . CONDITION IMPROVED During the short time that Hunting King has been in work under R. G. Stenning's supervision lie has improved in condition noticeably. During the week this three year old reeled off three furlongs in great, style, and a good future should be in store for him when thoroughly seasoned. RACING CAREER ENDED The six year old marc Silver Quex has finished her racing career, and is to be mated Avitli the successful sire Foxbridge.* The daughter of Lord Quex —Nukerakau was never over-raced at any stage, while her breeding suggests that she. should make a valuable brood mare. PROMISING NOVICE Last Survey, which has been kept going throughout the winter, will be In great order for the sprint meetings. This novice is built on solid lines, and is a bold galloper, but had not had sufficient experience to enable him to win. He is a likely maiden prospect to keep in mind. MAIDEN HURDLER Few horses at Ellerslie are thriving better than Tooley Street. The aged son of Survelor has made vast improvement since the Great Northern meeting and is working accordingly. This maiden hurdler may make his next appearance at the Thames meeting in August. HALF-SISTER TO BRONZO Lord Defoe, and Lyallii are in regular work at headquarters, but are not being asked to do any serious tasks, Lord Defoe won a race earlier m the esason and, judged on looks, a good future should be in store for the son of Defoe and Lady Sal. Lj'allii is a half-sister to Bronzo, but so far has had little arcing. TEAM OF FIVE W. H. Buyer has a team of five in work at Wanganui, including two coming three year olds -md three yearlings. One of the former is a full brother to Algerian, and he takes after the latter in size and shows plenty of quality. TRIG STATION LEASED The New Plymouth trainer H. Dulieu recently bought Trig Station from one of his patrons, Mrs G. iM, Bennett, and has leased the horse to Mr H. J. T. Hume. RESUMING Mr A.
