MANUFACTURE BANNED

ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES URGENCY OF STOCK POSITION The prohibition of the manufacture of a wide range of electrical appliances because of the stock position "was announced by the Minister of Supply, the Hon. Neither of those two countries would permit exports of certain materials if they were to be used for the manufacture of the prohibited goods and New Zealand's action was taken in compliance with a request for unified control everywhere. The gazetted notice prohibits the manufacture of 27 articles, all of which were in common use, said the Minister. Provision was made, however, for the servicing of plant already in use by permitting the manu faeture of elements for domestic electric fires, , irons, jugs, kettles, radiators, stoves, rangettes, and grillers and water heating installations.

The schedule of prohibited articles in the notice is as follows: Bedwarmers, blankets, dryers, egg-boil-ers and poachers, fans, lires, l'oodwarmers, footwanners, hair curling, setting, waving and drying equipment, hotplates, immersion waterheaters, ircners, irons, jugs, kettles, masasges and vibrators (except for medical and professional purposes), percolators, platewarmers, pressing irons, radiators, roasters, stoves, ranges, rangettes and grillers, toasters, urns, waffle-irons, washing machines and water heating installations. "To bring the regulations into line with requirements the nickel chromium wire control notice has also been gazetted,.'" said Mr Sullivan. "This wire may now be used only for the repair of articles mentioned in the service schedule of cicatrical appliances. All who stock nickel chromium wire are required to- furnish to the factory controller particulars of all such wire or ribbon held and a monthly return of stocks in hand and stocks used during the month."
