EGYPT'S PAST GLORIES
MANY HISTORIC RUINS LOCAL MAN'S TOUR ; Further descriptions of Bert Norman's tour through the scenes of ancient Egypt are contained in a further letter Avliich reads as under:— After lunch Ave Avere taken by the guide to Adsit the famous ancient temple of Luxor also only excaA r ated a matter of a hundred years or less ago. In fact there are parts that they have not uncovered yet as there are neAV buildings on top of the earth under Avhich the temple is. This place AA r as built about 1300 or 1400 B.C. and is even in a better state of preservation than Karnak.
We visited the Temple of Kings also the huge columns A'ery similar to those in Karnak. Then to the Court of Ramases the second. Round this Court there arc eleA r en huge statues of him all Avitli the left foot advanced hence the army's practice of making troops start off with the left foot.
Believe me these ancient kings must have liked themselves as they sure had enough images made of themselves. After we had visited quite a lot more of the temples we went for a sail on the Nile with our guide and it was great just cruising along in the cool as by this time the sun was getting low. Then back to the Savoy Hotel for a spot, a clean up and dinner at 8 which was certainly a credit to the French chef who incidentally I met later in the evening. After a quiet stroll along the banks of the Nile we retired to bed so as to be ready for the next day which the guide told us was a pretty full one.
