ABSENT FROM PARADE

E.P.S. MEMBER FINED A shoe store proprietor of Lower Hutt was fined £o by the magistrate, Mr A'. M. Goukling, 5.M.,, for failing to carry out the duties required of him by the E.P.S. organisation. The evidence Avas that lie was a member of a unit and was absent from three parades, and from a trial, adequate notice of all of Avhich had been given. The compulsory aspect of E.P.S. duties was stressed during the hearing. The defence Avas that defendant Avas aAvay on one of the dates, and also that he had not seen the notices in the paper. It Avas pointed out that any member of the EI..P.S. contemplating absence from the district for a period of 16 hours Avas required to notify the controller of his unit.—Board of Council.
