THE WHAKATANE BAR

IT is not until a new fatality occurrs that attention is again, directed to the dangerous nature of the swiftly flowing currents at the Whaaktane bar when the river is in spate. The tragic disappearance of the Hindu, Rai Kapoor, last week who was swept out to sea in. an open boat should serve to illustrate the treacherous nature of the waters at the funnel which links the inner harbour with the bar. If greater notice were taken of the printed warning at the Heads we feel that public attention would not be continually arrested by the periodic drowning fatalities which have taken place.
