FISH —IN PARLIAMENT
THE question of the retailing of fish which recently figured iin these columns discussed in the House last Thursday evening, during the session of committees. Raised by Mr W. Sullivan, M.R, an interesting comparison of ideas in which the member for Waitomo and others joined occupied the debate for some time, the Minister (Hon. D. Sullivan) giving a fairly wide interpretation of the regulations but missing the main point—of monopoly. The most interesting fact arising from the discussion appeared to be relative to the %cl per l,b royalty payable to the wholesaler by individual fishermen.

Not Such a Goat The story of a sagacity of a goat comes l'rom Stewart Island. A billy goat and a nanny goat used to wander round, each with a length of rope attached to its neck. One day the billy goat persisted in walking into a boat repair shed on the is-' land. He was chased away several times, but always returned. His persistence Avas such that it seemed probable there must lie some reason for it. So at last he was followed, and it was then discovered that the nanny goat had got her rope caught by a large boulder and that she was securely tethered well below high water mark. Had her plight not been discovered she would almost certainly have been drowned.
