DAIRY FARM WAGES
At last Executive meeting of the Auckland Farmers' Union Mr R. J. Glasgow reported upon a conference that had been held in Wellington between representatives of the Farmers* Union and the Labour Department with regard to dairy farm wages for the coming season. It Avas agreed that the rise under the "Gentlemen's agreement" was 2/6 for each farthing and this would make the adult workers* rate £2 17s 6d plus £1 for keep. Proportionate increases were made as follows:— Under Present New 17 years £10 0 £12 0 17-18 years 16 6 19 0 18-19 years 1 13 0 1 1G 0 19-20 years 1 10 6 2 3 6 20-21 years 2 6 0 2 10 0 Over 21 years 2 12 6 2 17 6 All the above rates are plus £1 per week for keep. These rates arc to come into force on the Ist August, 15)42, the date when the increase in the payment for butterfat comes into operation.
