"-•••• " 'jifaThe Edgecumbc Womenis Insti- -vi tule held a birthday party to cele- ' ' l - • bratc the 12th anniversary of its " formation on Tuesday, June 16. >„ Hodsqn presided and there was. a ."> large attendance of members and visitors from Otakiri and Matata In- .> stitutes. The meeting opened with the singing of the Ode to Friendship after which Mrs Hodson welcomed the visitors, among whom / was Mrs Eccles, foundation president of Edgecumbe W.I. Mrs Shaw sang: . "Love's Old Sweet Song" and "O ** Promj.se Me" two songs which were much enjoyed. A competition in which members I produced their earliest photograph, I for identification by others Avas won I by Mrs L. Wilson. .1 A one-act play entitled "Allot- A ments'" was enacted by Mrs Todson I and Mrs Speirs and provoked hearty \ .. I laughter. - rr ■ A knitting competition on wooden , ,>*■ match sticks Avas Avon by Mrs K. ;H Armstrong. I A humorous, recitation "Arriet" by <H Miss J. Pcpperell in costume Avas H heartily applauded. H A competition for an apron AvaTs -sM Avon by Mrs Cole, senior. • ■ Afternoon tea Avas served by 'tIW-* "H committee and a birthday cake made H and iced bj r Mrs Hodson was cut by. '-'<H Mrs Eccles who Avished the Insti- -tfl tute man3 r more happy anniversar- 1 ics. Mrs Withy V.O. lit the twelve candles on the cake and Mrs Dunn-» ing, president of Otakiri W.I. ble\tf them out. The monthly competition results, were: Jam tart- (puff pastry), Mrs^ 1 List 1; : Mrs Learning 2. Boavl of winter decoration, Mrs List 1; Mrs Bur~ gess 2. Best flower Mrs Learning 1; Mrs List, Mrs Goldsmith, Mrs JesJ£ person (equal 2). A sales table in charge of Mrs Jes-* person did good business, the P r^ ceeds 1, will be allotted to the Do-* minion Conference Pool. The singing of the National An.-* them brought a very pleasant aflefr-* -'II noon to a close.
