IMPROVED CONDITIONS "Everything possible is being clone to try and provide the huts and other buildings for the various camps," said the Minister of Defence (Mr Jones), when referring to conditions in some of the newer camps. Mr Jones said that great demands were being made on timber and labour resources and for that reason it had not been possible to comply Avith all the requirements of the camps throughout the Dominion. "All our establishments, however," Mr Jones continued, "arc working at full speed in an endeavour to meet the situation, and I am hoping that some of the conditions that exist Avill be remedied soon." The Minister added that it had been hoped to get on Avith the Avork earlier, but apart from the demands being made on timber and labour, the exceptional spell of bad AA'cathcr had caused delays and had accentuated the position. The Government's desire Avas to complete the Avorlc at the earliest possible moment and it AA*as not foil* lack of authority that the additional buildings required' had not materialised earlier. It Avas due entirely to the enormous demands being made on materials and the, serA'ices of Avorkmen for certain other urgent work.
