| annual committee meeting LICENSEE WARNED The annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Licencing Committee Avas held at the Opotiki Courthouse, Avhen Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., (chairman) and Messrs G. S. Bloody, A. Young, 1 M. Doyle, li. F. Jackson and A. Nicol, were in attendance. 1 When the application for renewal of the license in respect of the Masonic Hotel (E. W. Oswald, licensee, with Mr E. C. East in support), came before the committee for consideration, the attention of the committee Avas drawn by the Police to the convictions recorded against the licensee during the previous 12 months. The chairman directed Mr .East to inform the licensee that the committee Avas cognisant of the mounting list of comictions. The application for renewal Avas granted. Accommodation Refused In the application for renewal of license of the Oil Springs Hotel, Whatatutu (Arthur Heeney, licensee, with Mr Nugent in support), the chairman informed Mr Nugent that complaints had been made that the licensee of this hotel Avas not doing his duty in the matter of providing accommodation. Travellers had applied for accommodation and had been refused Avithout sufficient reason. Mr Nugent Avas directed to point out to the licensee that it was his duty to provide accommodation for travellers, etc. The licence was rcncAved. Transfer of License Sought With regard to the application of the licensee of the Te Puka Hotel, Tcltomaru Bay (R. M. Dunn, licensee), Mr Hodgson appeared for the applicant, Avhile Mr Nugent appeared for the owner. The attention of the committee Avas draAvn by the Police to the breaches of the Licensing Act, 1908, committed by the applicant since the last annual meeting. Mr Nugent, for the OAAmer, stated that the position regarding the management of the hotel Avas appreciated. by the OAvner, and e\ r ery effort Avas being made to find some suitable person to whom the license could be transferred. The application for reneAA T al of license in respect of T. J. Scholium, licensee of the Kaiteratahi Hotel, Kaiteratahi. Avas granted on the undertaking being given that the Health Inspector's recommendations would be carried out. Applications for renewal of licenses in respect of the following were also granted on an undertaking being giA-en that the Police and Health recommendations AA r ould be carried out: M. Ward, Tolaga Inn, Tolaga Bay; J. ForsliaA\% Waerenga-a-hika Hotel, Waerenga-a-hika; J. Moody, Te Puia Springs Hotel, Te Puia Springs. The following applications for rcnewal were granted: H. H. Lunn, Bridge Hotel, M'ataAvhcro; N. M. Bremner. Commercial Hotel, Whakatane; E. A. Hendry, Opotiki Hotel, O'potiki; A. Donnellnn, Rangatira Hotel, Te Karaka: J. Jackson, Tatapouri Hotel, Tatapouri: W. F. Callaghan, Tawhiti Hotel, Waipiro Bay: M. ITyland, Waiapu Hotel; A. Hayter, Whakatane Hotel, Whakatane. The following included accommodation licenses: G. McK. McKiddic, KaAvaknwa Hotel, Te Araroa; P. G. Burton, Manutahi Hotel, Ruatoria; H. C. Alexander, Taneatua Hotel, Taneatua; K. Rountree, Te Kaha Hotel, Te Kaha; S. Dydc, Whangara : Hotel, Whangara. The folloAving application for ' transfer Avas granted: T. P. Smalc, (applicant), Ormond. Hotel Oral on (I, : S. L. Chapham (transferee). The following applications for new licenses for old houses were granted: S. L. Chapham, Ormond Hotel, J. D. O'Sullivan, Royal Ho- : tel, Opotiki, W. Wilson, Te Puia 1 Springs Hotel, E. Ward, MataAvai. : The last license Avas also an accom--1 modation liccnse.
