AUSTRALIAN GIRL GIVES THE WAR ITS NAME
An Australian suggestion to name, and at the same time describe, the war: n i-: w ER A • W A R The name, which may be read horizontally or vertically, was suggested to Prime Minister John Curtin by Miss Helen Outlnvaite following President Roosevelt's appeal for a new designation for the conflict. She said her suggestion was based on the idea that most persons felt the war to be a gigantic cleanup of all mistakes of the past and preparation for a world where mankind would be able to live in real freedom. "We are all working to bring in this new era," she wrote. ' and when people rea r ise what they are fighting for it makes their work or fight worth greater zeal.''
