ANNUAL MEETING HELD

At the annual meeting of the Whakatane Harbour Board, which was held prior to the ordinary meeting last Friday morning, the chairman (Mr W. R. Boon) briefly sketched the Board's activities during the year, mentioning the loss of Mr J. W. Sumner their chairman of many years standing, the scheme plan for the Board's endowments, the proposed new Post Office site and enlarging of the wharf sheds to cope with cheese storage. The chairman's honorarium was fixed at £75 plus travelling expenses after which Mr Boon was unanimously re-elected chairman. Board meetings were fixed for the first Friday in each alternate month. The Board later made a tour of inspection of the harbour works and decided to put in hand immediate repairs to the upper harbour groin work, also to take no action regarding the construction of lirebreaks to protect the Heads plan:tation and to leave to the chairman the matter of having the necessary repairs made to the signal station wall.
