LOCKS BROKEN
MEN'S CONVENIENCES THEFT OF CONTENTS The "Whakatane Borough Council "decided at its meeting last Monday ►evening to offer a reward of £2 to any person giving information as to the identity of the person responsible for consistently breaking open the locks of the men's convenience •on the Strand. The foreman, Mr W. Henderson, stated that once again the. locks had been broken into and the contents taken. One lock was now rendered absolutely useless while the other had been repaired so often that he doubted whether it would stand any fresh welding. From his own observations he was convinced that the same person had been responsible for the damage over the past few years. The Mayor stated that cach lock •cost the council £6 or £7 each and it was debateable whether it was worth while retaining them in view of the persistent damage. After a brief discussion it was decided to agree to the suggestion of Or T. Cuminings that a reward be offered.
