LUNCH-HOUR CLOSING RAMI LTOX, RETAILERS ])JSCUSS QUEST I'OX The closing of all business premises during the lunch hour was. discussed by a representative meeting of the Hamilton Retailers' Association and the opinions expressed, were almost unanimously against the suggestion. .Mr 15. E. Wood hams pre* 'sided. A resolution was passed that !he meeting did not think that the present position warranted the closing of ships- at the lunch hour. The consensus of opinion was that the difficulties inherent in the scheme, far outweighed any benefit that was likely to be gained. It was admitted that there were- stall' difl'l-. cullies, but the retailers sressed that the customers had to be considered. The majority of housewives did their shopping between the hours of 10.:{() a.m. and I p.m., and to close the business* premises for an hour at lunch time woidd handicap many of them. Then there were the shop assistants, who could really do their shopping in their lunch hours.
