RIDER'S GOOD DAY That versatile horseman, Ashley Jenkins, had probably the best day of his career at Ellerslie on Saturday when he was: on three winners, and was also third in the Great Northern Hurdles. His riding fees ' brought him in £184 10s, the chief contributor being Dozie Boy, £121 ' 10s. The wins on Brandon Hlal and Golden Memory were each Avorth £22 10s, and third on Kanivi te Pai, £18. GOING LIKE A WINNER Whether Ghat would have won the Great Northern had she not fallen at the top of the hill the last time is a matter of opinion; but the daughter of Siegfried was certainly going along nicely at that stage and had just raced into second position behind Clansman. A GOOD HACK Kinstep showed a fine turn of speed in the first division of the Members' Handicap, and he will not want for support the first time he is saddled up for a hack event. The son of Kincardine can go. very fast, and J. F. Tutchen should not be long in winning a race with him. STREAMLINE OUT Streamline, the best hurdler and steeplechaser in the Dominion, ran a slashing race to beat all but. Erndale in the Great Northern Hurdles, but he was in a bad way after pull-t ing up, and it transpired; afterwards that he Avent in a ligament. This means that the son of Day Comet will be off the scene for the remainder of the jumping season. Streamline was improving with every race, and locked like winning at least an important race, during the next month or so. REALISING HIGH PRICES Notwithstanding the restrictions of racing in England thoroughbred yearlings are still realising high prices at the annual sales. At a reI cent sale the Aga Khan paid 3200 guineas for a half-brother to Sun Castle, Avinner of the St. Legcr, while, a half-brother to Sun Chariot, winner of the One Thousand Guineas Avas sold at 4200 guineas. REDUCING THE FIELDS In respect to, the entries for the . next Melbourne Cup to be run in ' November the club has; made the ' proviso that no nomination Avill be . accepted of horses that have not , Avon at least £140 in stakes. ! UNDER THE HAMMER. 1 included in the list of entries for ; the Auckland Winter Thoroughbred j Sale this month arc Arvakur, Orclio, Night Pilot, Court Favourite, Wai- ' fox and Hutana. FURTHER SOUTH The. ex-Rolorua horse, Kena, by Musketoon, is now a member of George Ncav's Palmerston North team. He; has had an easy time lately, but will be contesting important hurdle races during the Avinter. Like ' others of the family he fairly revels in heavy going, so will therefore be quite at home in neogotiating the Trent ham mud in July.
