Broken Wrist Sustained I A heavy fa.ll resulted in Mrs K. Stewart of Hillcrest breaking her wrist recently. She was admitted to the Whakatane Hospital and is now reported to be making good recovery. Leave it to Mr Doidge Mr W. Sullivan raised a laugh at the' conference of local bodies yesterday by referring to an earlier remark of Mr F. W. Doidge about the air of 'sweet reasonableness' which ruled at the meeting. "You can leave it to me to maintain that air of 'sweet reasonableness' down in Wellington,'" he said, when making your representations. I will leave the rest to Mr Doidge. No Bright Lights "It is almost impossible to get people to go to the more remote areas." said Mr A. G. T. Bryan, of Thames, at a sitting of the No. 2 (Paeroa) military area Manpower Committee in Waihi on Wednesday, when he appeared for a Hikuai reservist, the possibility of whose replacement in order to allow him to render military service was being discussed. "They all want to be nearer the bright lights," added Mr Br3*an. "There arc no bright lights these days," remarked the chairman, Mr Edwin Edwards, with a smile. Milk Bottle Tops A handy suggestion has been made to us by a local lady who has for some lime past made a practice of saving the card milk bottle Lops which once removed arc usually burnt by housewives. Our informant stales that the card would make excellent wads lor gun cartridges. It only needed in stamp ihe wads out to the required si/e to utilise them to the full. The suggestion though simple is a sound and, thoughtful one which mighl easily be referred to the. "Awake N.Z.' committee, for national adoption.
