May time in England, Avhen the Avoodlands are ringing With love songs the Avild birds are joyously singing While Dame Nature's preparing her regal array — For proclaiming and croAvning the Queen of the May. The old oaken branches are burnished with gold The beeches are mantled Avith fold upon fold.— Of glistening velvet exquisitely green. The Avlroilc, forest family, form a foliaga scheme— ' x Of various shades so perfectly blended— An orchestra of colour till summer is ended. The blossoming orchards, the scent of the hay, The sound of the mowers rustic soundelay, Broad river readies like; mirrors reflecting— Swift flight of swallows gracefully intersecting. May mornings, so fragrant, refreshing and clear; The nightingales sweet serenade, to his dear. Tiie church bells mellow music, recalling the. past— Solemn tones emphasising that life's sand run fast. Authors may write and musicians may sin;., — But age is man's winter, and youth. is his spring. Be life's journey ending, or ready to start— It always is springtime, Avlien May's in the heart. H.
