Miss Eva Alexander and 1 , Miss Joyce Potter of Taradale, Napier, were the guests of Mrs M. King recently. Friendsi of Mrs T. G. H. Cawte, of Galatea, will be sorry to learn that she is now in hospital awaiting an operation. Mr R. (Dick) Whittle, the popular local businessman, has received notification of his appointment to the R.A.F. and leaves for Tauranga next Monday. Whilst riding her cycle, Miss Winnifred Menary of Short Street had the misfortune to fall and break a bone in her ankle. She was treated at the local hospital. Miss Eunice McGougan who has recently been transferred 1 from the Hamilton Hospital nursing staff to the Rotorua Hospital is at present spending a short holiday with her parents, Mr and Mrs A. F. McGougan, Taneatua. Mr Cliff Harris of Whakatane leaves on Friday next for Ohakea where he will join the Air Force. He' will be the third member of this family to join up with the R.N.Z.A.F. Messrs Neville and Jack Harris are stationed in Canada and; Tauranga respectively. A sister Miss; Merle Harris has joined, the W.R.A.F., and also' leaves for Tauranga in tho near future. Mr Arnold Albiston, who has been serving in the R.N.Z.A.F. and leaves for Tauranga to-morrow, was the recipient of a presentation at the Methodist Hall last Monday evening. The Rev. Thomas wishing him farewell and god-speed said that his friends learnt with pleasure that he was posted to a centre' not far removed from his home town. Mr Alibiston suitably replied.
