STAY ASHORE AS A PUNISHMENT
Officers and men of the Polish submarine Sokol have evolved a new form of punishment. II a rating commits a minor offence he is not allowed to take part in the next patrol. So keen are Polish naval men to be always attacking the enemy, and so successful has the Sokol been on her recent cruises, that a de!aulter considers it a threat disgrace to be, ; left ashore. Polish Navy ILQ. announced on January 15 that during October and November Sokol hit i an armed merchant cruiser Avith a torpedo, sunk a supply ship by gunfire, probably sank a large destroyer and torpedoed two escort supply ships.
