UNION IS STRENGTH
MAY we respectfully suggest to the local bodies sponsoring the setting up a Defence League with practically the same ,aims as the 'Awake New Zealand Movement , that a pool ing of forces would be most desirable in view of the flying start and rapid establishment of the latter organisation in this district. Already the local committee has launched its activities and opened up a wider scope for further work. It is representative of town and country interests; has direct links with the two Home Guard Battalions and further has already substantial funds behind it In view of the facb that it is already organised and operating, that the projected local body movement has not yet passed the conference stage, and that the objectives of both are more or less identical there should be nothing to prevent a collaboration of action under the one head Local body representatives in each centre appointed to the district committees could probably accomplish all the promoters originally desired without imposing fresh duties on the already overloaded county and municipal executive officers.
