Borough Grants The Borough Finance and Electrical Committee has resolved to recommend the council that grants be fixed as follows for the current year: Domain Board £100, Library £25, and subject to the receipt in due course of a baliance sheet in each case, to the Plunket Society £20, Citizens Band £20 and the Pipe Band £10. Defective Spoutings Cr Armstrong at the Borough Council meeting last Monday even- j ing drew attention to the number of defective spoutings on the north side, of the Strand. During the rain storms, he said the water simply poured ever the sides and was actually damaging the watertables. The council decided to take action in the matter. Plumbers Pri.vele.ge The Director General of Health, was responsible for a lengthy circular to the Borough Council last Monday, dealing -with the licensing of plumbers. The letter concluded with a final instruction that all registered phimbers were required to carry their license with them when engaged in their work. "Hm," ejaculated the Mayor unkindly with i glance towards his Deputy—"Anoth* er thing for them to forget." Cr Shapley looked pained but smiled tolerantly. Labels Replace Number Plates To conserve steel, number plates will not be issued to owners of motor vehicles when they register their vehicles in June. In the place of plates, labels or transfers will be issued for display on the windscreens of vehicles. Vehicles not lifted Avith windscreens must exhibit transfers in waterproof holders. Licensing labels will be similar in colour and design, but different letters will appear on them to denote, the classes of motor vehicles to which they are assigned.
