CROQUET
THE LOCAL CLUB The Whakatane Corquct Club closed its lawns for the season on Saturday last. The weather was ideal and with the lawns in good order, a very enjoyable afternoon was spent. Progressive croquet was played, and the trophies which were kindly donated by Mesdames Baxter and Crceke were won ln r Mesdames Healey and Burgess. On Tuesday, April 28 Opotiki croquet ladies visited Whakatane in a challenge for the South Auckland A Clip which they took home with them. The day was- pcrfcct and the lawns were keen, so a very enjoyable time was spent. The visiters were entertained to a dainty luncheon and afternoon tea in the club's pavilion. Details of games were as follows, Opotiki players being mentioned first: Mesdames Parkinson and Stevenson v Hellyar and Boon 26-<6, 26-7; Mesdames Johnson and Maddren v Healey and Baxter 26-6, 16-26., At the conclusion Mrs Shaw, president of the Whakatane Club, expressed i}! 63511 that Opotiki had been able to again visit Whakatane and congratulated them on their win. Mrs Johnson, president of the Opotiki Club, suitably replied.
