THIRD CARRIED MEN'S BALLOT
THE list of reservists appearing in to-clay's BEACON constitutes the third draft of married men called by ballot to the colours, and comprises those between the ages of 28 and 32 years irrespective of family responsibilities. It is whispered that with the invoking of compulsory training in the Home Guard, and the issue of better equipment and uniforms to that body that this will be the final ballot to be issued undjer military dictum. The quota for the regular forces .under direct army control must be all but filled and the risk of over-reaching the claims on manpower for military purposes is becoming more and more acute. Saturation point must be all . but reached. To-day's ballot will constitute a further drastic drain on Industry and we await with expectation the statement of the Minister of National Service relative to the greater responsibly ties of the Home Guard.
