RACING NOTES

RELATED TO CHARY A half-brother to Chary lay Robemost, has been purchased by Mr N'. C. Gould, of Taihape, and will join the team presided over by A. G. Jones at Te Rapa, and who races Chary in partnership with Mr Gould. STAR PERFORMERS . Battle Dress, winner of the New Zealand Derby and Great Northern St. Leger has been adjudged the Dominion's best three year old this season, while the honour of being the leading two year old goes to the Thames owned Bonny Pay. It is expected that the latter may stay on well as a three year old, and may be a Derby candidate next seasom. BACK TO NEW ZEALAND Recent news from Sydney states that when J. T. Jamieson leaves Australia for New Zealand, that he will reside at his Cambridge property, Avhere he may train a select team and go in for breeding thoroughbred horses. It is probable that he may bring High Caste over with him. It has transpired that at the Australian Easter Sales, Sydney Sportsmen purchased five high-class yearlings, which will be trained by Rf. McCarten, who has secured the Jamieson property, near Sydney.

CHANGE OF LOCATION The Trentham trainer T. R. George., transferred his team last week to the property recently purchased by him at Masterton. HUGME SOLD The sale of Hugme, reported on Tuesday, was to Mr J. Masterton for use as a lady's, hack. The price was reported to be 30 guineas, but there is a contingency attached to the sale should Mr Hcnnah ever decide to race her again. Hugme has raced on 13 occasions only and Avon four times and "was once second. She is a small mare by Bulandshar from Fondle and is closely related to Cuddle. GOLD SALUTE LEASED Mr Alan Cooper hs leased the former New Zealand horse Gold Salute 1 to the Werribee trainer S. Murphy for 12 months. The picturesque Mr Coouer announced that lie intended tc return to his farm to grow lucerne, which he had found to be more profitable than racing horses. OUT FOR A SPELL Wanganui's best performer. Sir Beau, who raced unluckily at the Auckland Easter meeting, has. been turned out for a spell. His trainei W. Dwyer, lias re-commissioned the two year old Hippodrome.

AN IMPROVED CANDIDATE One of the most improved horses of the present season is the Hamilton owned Erndale. Second to Kindergarten in the Easter Handicap run in record time, and third in the Islington Handicap, carrying 9.4, were his most recent performances. As lie shows no signs of training off 3'et awhile he will doubtless be well supported for his Avondale and Waikato engagements. BIG DIVIDEND .The big dividend-payer at Hastings, Fiddler's Green, had no racing to commend her, and the fact that she is trained at Wairoa would result in her being passed by. Nevertheless, she is well enough bred, for she is a half-sister to that very useful southerner Lazybones, and to Lady Primrose, who did so well in Australia as a two year old. winning the Gimcrack Stakes at Randwic.k and the Mimosa Stakes and Carmichael Stakes at Flemington. A CHEAP HORSE Historian, winner of several thousands in stake money, has been sole! in Australia for 75 guineas. His new owner, Mr Arthur Spence, intends using him as a station sire. Two years ago Mr Spence was prepared to go to 2000 guineas for the horse, so he has made a bargain to alUappearances. Stan Reid. Historian's old j trainer, considered that the horse was fit enough to be put into train-

in&£. PRIZE MONEY REDUCTION The .stakes in the Sydney Cup, won fast week by Veiled Thread, were reduced from £7000 to £1500- Racing !n Australia lins certainly been materially affected by war conditions.
