FERTILIZER RATIONING

NEW SEASON'S NEED

FARMERS ADVISED TO ACT

The time is near Avhen farmers ol" this district are going to be anxious about their ration of fertiliser for the coming season, i.e. Ist July 1912 to 30 June 1943. At the moment there is considerable speculation as to methods of rationing and the possibility of being amongst those who will be able to get a quota, if any. Admittedly there has been much injustice under the present scheme and it is most unlikely this, will be continued in its present form. With limited quantities available for the present rationing period, there has been no indication as to what supplies will be available for the next 12 months. It is expected that before the end of this rationing year some indication will be given as to the position for next season.

Last year Fertiliser Committees were s'ct up in the Primary Production Council ccntres to consider special cases where farmers were unable to; obtain part or all of their quota by the formal method of application through their vendors. Late appeals were up to the middle of December, for special cases that arose after the closing date in August, and from that time on committees were not allowed, under any circumstances to consider further appeals. To those who are taking on properties at this time and others who desire to appeal would they please take note that nothing can be done to assist them in the meantime. When a scheme is brought forward and published concerning next season's supply of fertiliser, the position will then be clarified.

Farmers who have not yet placed their orders for all, or the remainder of their allocation for the rationing year ending 30th June, 1942, would be well advised to do so now.
