MORE WHEAT WANTED
CAMPAIGN STARTING
A plan of campaign to ensure that farmers would meet the request oi the Government for greatly increased areas of whrnt for harvest next year was detailed by Mr R.. P. Conncll, fields superintendent of the Department of Agriculture, at a meeting of the North Canterbury Council of Primary Production. The plans, drafted after a meeting of the Director of Primary Production, Mr R. B. Tenncnt, the wheat and flour controller, Mr R. Mcpherson, and himself, were' summarised by Mr Council as follows: — (1) An extended drive of the campaign to the North Island. Messrs Tenncnt and W. W. Mulholland, president of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, have agreed to undertake tjijfr, and they will leave on a tour shortly. (2) To intensify propaganda in

tcntion to land lying fallow or comfng out of forage crops or linen flax. It is considered that because of the good autumn and the large amount of hay and other forage saved, there will he an abundance of winter feed: consequently, much of the land intended for sowing in feed crops may be safely turned over to wheat. ('.'>) To make a special effort to c-ncoiiragc large sheepfarmcrs with suitable land to grow wheat. (1) The Wheat and Flour Controller Lo maintain pressure on brokers to advise and their clients to grow wheat.
