BARBED WIRE
WANTED URGENTLY FARMERS' UNION UNDERTAKING The secretary of the Rangitaiki Plains branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union has received 1 information from the Provincial Secretary to the effect that a total of 14 tons of barbed' wire are required from this area for Army purposes. The intention is to canvass the district seeking out those who may have wire lying about on their farms and to assess an approximate total to report back. Farmers who have such stocks of wire—even if only part of a single coil are asked to get into touch with the secretary, Mr F. E. Briggs, Phone 22R Te Teko, without delay. Should there not be sufficient wire forthcoming the Army has the power to strip fences and appropriate the required amount., It is however hoped to avoid this by collecting the unused coils available. How soon it will be used depends upon the Army's ability to use it. When eventually called up it will be paid for but prices have yet to be arranged.
