INCREASED WAGES

MEN IN COAL MINES Representatives of the Coal Mine Owners' Association and the United ■Mine Workers of New Zealand have been conferring in Wellington on wages, working conditions in the mines, and means of increasing coal production. The Minister of Mines (Mr Webb) said that he was pleased to say that complete agreement had been readied between the parties. Details would be submitted to the various organisations for ratification. It is understood that the conference agreed to a 5 per cent increase in the payments to the hewers of coal. Increases are also to be granted to all the men on wages, including the truckers.
