LYCEUM CLUB

SOCIAL AFTERNOON

As a break from the weekly Patriotic sewing activities, the ladies of the Lyceum Club held their first social afternoon for the year 011 Friday last. Members brought their knitting, so the time was spent both pleasantly and profitably. The programme was opened by Mrs James w T ho sang two songs, the rendering of which was much appreciated. Club members next presented a most entertaining play, "Woman's Crowning Glory." This was produced by Mrs Appleby, the east being: Mrs Buxton (Mrs Iveir); Baines (Mrs Hayter); Alys (Mrs Pearse); Lady Agatha (Mrs Cole). Capt. Betts (Mrs Winstone). After the serving of afternoon tea, the singing of the National Anthem brought a pleasant afternoon to a close. The hostesses on this occasion were Mrs Spenee and Mrs Lucas. Among those present were; Mrs Spenee, Mrs Lucas, Mrs James, Mrs Appleby, Mrs Luxton, Mrs. Carter, Mrs Sumner, Senr., Mrs F. Sumner, Mrs Powdrell, Mrs Hawken, Mrs Cole, Mrs Keir, Mrs Dewar, Mrs Hayter, Mrs Gartshorc, Mrs Pease. Mrs Lvsaght, Mrs Connolly, Miss Whiteside, Miss Allan, Miss Tait, Miss Semmens. A similar social afternoon will be .held on the last Friday of each month.
