RECENT APPEALS
MANPOWER DECISIONS
POSSIBLE MISCONSTRUCTION We feel that we owe a possible word of explanation to a number of those reservi'sts whose cases were heard before the re-" cent Manpower Committee sitting in Whakatane for the baldness of thte findings as printed in th© Beacon report and the misconception which may have been read 1 into them. The position was that the findings were copied from the record book of the proceedings and were printed as received by us. The bare decisions however make it appear in many instances that - many willing reservists had appealed for indefinite postponement. Such is not the case and! where it is reported 1 that "appeal was withdrawn by consent'* in: most instances the reservist having merely applied for an extension in order to finalise private affairs, and decided to waive' the extension granted him. In these days of criltical public opinion in these matters we trust that this paragraph will remove any stigma imagined l or otherwise in connection with the matter.
