The late Mr Shalfoon took a leading part in local government and was for 20 years and up to the time of his death a member of the ougli Council, where his sound business knowledge was reflected in careful administration. As a valued member of the Hospital Board he served for many years and he also lepresented the Borough on the fire Board for a term. He also took a keen interest in the extension of the East Coast Main Trunk Railway. Mr Shalfoon was possessed of a quiet unassuming manner and he will be remembered for the many thoughtful acts of kindness and generosity to those who needed a lift up. He leaves a wife and young daughter to bear the sadness of his passing. A brother, Mr Chas Shal-foo-n, resides at Opotiki.
