GOOD RIDES A. E. Ellis has been engaged to ride Kindergarten in Hie Auckland Easter Handicap—if lie starts—and will ride Battledress in the Great Northern St. Letter and either Nizam or Bonny Pay in the Champagne Slakes. This is an attractive book. I-ITGIT CASTE'S FUTURE High Caste jarred his near foreleg when running in the Newmarket Handicap at F.'emingEon, but -T. T. Jamicson did not regard the injury as serious. It is suggested that the giant galloper's racing career may terminate with the A.J.G. meeting at Easter and that next season he may go to the stud, but High Caste has "come back'" so often that it is not safe to contemplate his retirement just yet. FOUR ON END The Salmagundi fillv Sally Lunn is putting up a fine record and her success in the Oamaru Cup made her fourth win on end. Not only can she go fast, but apparently she stays well. WON A DOUBLE The Auckland owner Mr C. Powell had a successful day on Saturday nt Marton. He won the Karere Hurdles with Enjoyment and the first division of the Woodlcv Hack Handicap with Bright Lady. ON THE TARGET Backers of favourites on Saturday nt the Oamaru meeting had unusual success and were right on the target throughout the afternoon. First favourites won seven races on end and in the concluding event the winner was second choice on the win machine and favourite for a placc. A SHORT PRICE Following her good second to Salutation in the Thompson Handicap it was anticipated that the Posterity filly Premature Avould see a short price in the King George Handicap at Marton on Saturday. Premature was coupled on the machine with Dynasty and the combination started at almost a Kindergarten price. Premature Avon, but it was only by a head that she defeated Talenta. Dynasty failed to get in the money. JUST GOT THERE The Auckland owned Nizam started a strong odds-on favourite in the Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes and he did the right thing by his supporters in taking the race, but it was a close thing between victory and defeat and the son of Bulandshar only got the decision by a short head over Voltaire, with Man Power a neck away. TO BE TRIED OVER HURDLES The Spear Dance 1 gelding, Te Haka Is new a member of G. Cobb's team nt Matamata. He will probably be put to hurdle racing before the winter. BALLATER FOR MATAMATA The imported English three yeai old colt Ballater, has been purchased by Mr S. J. Brindle, of Matamata. He is bv April the Fifth fron the successful mare Caerlavcrock. | GREAT NORTHERN OAKS Favourite at present for the Grea Northern Oaks is the Theio fill) Salutation. On breeding lines she may be a stayer, for her dam Queer Salute is by Chief Ruler. Her thirc dam, Salute by Soult, is a half sis ter to Malatcair, Te Kara and Queer March, a fine line of winners. AN UNSUCCESSFUL TRIP Acknowledged as one of the speed fest of Auckland's sprinters, and on< of the quickest off the mark 1 Route March. He was sent to tin Wellington meeting, but .experienced quite a bad run in his engage meats and finished unplaced. Prob ably Ellerslie racegoers will be in clined to overlook the successfn trip seuth. and be quite ready fo him to make amends.
