RACING NEWS
ADDITIONS TO TEAM Two recent additions to F. E- McMancmin's team are Kadina and Fiinnv Fox, both of whom lia\e been racing unsuccessfully this season, This trainer has now over half a dozen horses under his care and it may not be long before the stable produces a winner. LOOKING WELL Few horses at Ellerslie are doing better than Bright Idea and it is doubtful if the bay gelding ever looked fitter. He is due to make his next appearance in the Brighton Hurdles and if the going happens | to be easy when that race is run his prospects will have to be seriously considered. A SPEEDY FILLY It is intended that Cherry's Ticket will fulfil her engagement in tlic Easter Handicap at Ellerslie on April 4. The daughter of Croupier is very speedy and capable of running out a mile journey in solid style; while her ability to begin quickly will be an additional asset.
LIKES SOFT TRACK Since the ground became hard British Talent lias been doing the bulk of liis work on the tan track and will be in fine trim the next time lie goes to the post. This galloper ahvaj's runs his best races when the going is soft and when those conditions prevail again more money should come his way. LLANDAFF'S PREPARATION The, Easter Handicap candidate Llandaff is in regular work again under his owner's supervision. The short spell did the gelding no harm and he sprinted as well as ever over three furlongs last Thursday morning. IJandafT will have plenty of friends in the big mile event. FAILED AT TRENTHAM Well beaten in the North Island Challenge • Stakes at Trentham, the Takanini colt Representative failed to fulfil the hope of his admirers, and the only excuse that could be offered for his showing was that it was his first trip away from home, and that he was racing the reverse way round. Representative is in steady work in preparation for the Champagne Stakes, and may race better at Ellerslie.
WORKING WELL j Beau Vaals continues to work | with vigour seemingly unaffected by rather a big season's programme. His fourth in the North Island Challenge Stakes was a fair effort, and there are many who still regard his prospects in the Champagne Stakes Ln a hopeful light. His latest work has ccrtainly been accomplished in a pleasing manner. ! QUEEN CITY RETURNS i I Queen City is doing nicely for T. F. Verner, and if her present rate of progress is maintained it may not be long before she again sports silk. A speedy fillv Avlien at her best, there is no reason why Queen City should not be placed to advantage at autumn and winter fixtures. THE EASTER HANDICAP If Caymiss was to| repeat her best track efforts in public, then she would take a very high place. Gaymiss is regularly showing an abundance of speed at headquarters, and while her generosity is not yet in dispute, she has not been racing quite as well as anticipated. She is to con test the Easter Handicap next month. LOVAALS RESUMES WORK Lovaals has resumed in a bright state to undergo a preparation for winter engagements.. A proved mudlark, she has freshened up nicely after a spell and has resumed with renewed vigour in her work. Lovaals is not very big. but is a solid filly capable of testing the best liandicappcrs under winter conditions.
ROUTE MARCH FOR EASTER To all outward appearances unaffected by his trip to Trentham, Route March will be on hand for Easter engagements. His showing at Trentham were not in keeping with the form lie displayed on his previous visit to that centre, but it is recognised that the Vaals gelding is partial to easy traclc conditions, and he may find these more to his liking in the autumn. NOT IN CHAMPAGNE STAKES Kentish's name is a notable absentee from the Champagne Stakes field, and as his latest efforts at Te Rapa and Paeroa indicate lie is not far removed from the best class. He is still in work and will apparently race during the autumn, but having won with 9.13 at his. last start, much conjecture has been caused as to what weight he will next be asscssod in a handicap event.
WILL WIN AGAIN Water Vixen succeeded in notching her iirst win at Pacroa, and in a very convincing style considering that she was unfavourably drawn at the barrier. Maiden events arc invariably hard to win, and the merit attached to her latest performance suggests that the 1 Foxbridgt (illy will succeed again when raced in the higher grade.
