Many people believe 1. That fruits arc slimming. Ayhen the i'acl is that fruits appear frequently in reducing diets, not because they are in themselves slini]nin rf but because they are less concentrated foods than, for example steamed puddings, pastry, cakes ancl_ bread. . , 2. That acid fruits cause an acid i condition of the blood, when the fact is that if human blood ever developed even the slightest degree of acidity death ayouUl ensue. When your body uses fruit as food it is burned in much the same way as wood is burned in a fire. The ash which is formed,'instead of having an acid nature, is exactly the opposite—that is, it helps to neutralise
acid. 3. That meat is fattening, when the fact is that lean meat in moderation helps to speed up the various processes and encouiages the body to burn up rather than to store fat. Fatty meat has the same effect as any ether fatty food thai, is, it will tend to increase bulges and curves. 4. That beef tea and chicken broth are very nourishing when the fact is that the actual food value ol these two favourites is negligible. They owe their popularity, not to the nourishment tliey contain, bill to the fact that they are slightest imula ting, and they incicase appetite. They have then an important part to piny, but that part is net
to supply food itself. 5. That proteins and starches may not be eaten at the same meal, when the fact is that nature has given us no normal food Avhicli is chemically pure protein or pure starch. In milk, in nuts, in grains and in vegetable nature has in the eyes of these particular people made some ghastly errors in trying to provide foods for the human race-
