Scoffing at Home Guard
Instances of lit young men scoffing at members of the Home Guard while undergoing their week-end training were recounted by Colonel A. W. Short, Auckland group director, at a conference of local bodies in Auckland. "It is not uncommon for guardsmen to be chivvied by 20 or .10 fit 'beachcombers' who ought to be doing some sort of service," he said. It was unfair that this should be allowed to continue in the present conditions.
