AWAKE NEW ZEALAND!
REQUEST FROM ORGANISATION
AROUSING WHAKATANE
Publicity matter and a copy of Major Melrose's 'Sound the Tocsiin' have been forwarded to us by the "Awake New Zealand" organisation in Hamilton with a view to assisting towards establishing the movement in this and the calling of the first public meeting. While we would 1 gladly accede to the request, which is making for ia positive effort to equip and arm the Home Guard with locally manufactured weapons by the' raising of funds, we contend that to initial te such a movement without
some organisation in the town to accommodate, carry it on and attend to the fulfilment of the abjective®, would be futile. Without a branch of the actual Awake New Zealand Association in Whakatane we are unable to find any group as yet willing to sponsor such meeting to initate the local campaign.
