A NOVEL SUGGESTION

TUNNELLING FOR SHELTER

START THE: OHOPE PROJECT

A caller to this office yesterday proffered the novel suggestion of starting a community tunnel shelter in the Borough on. the face of the cliffs at the Headis, along the course of the proposed road tunnel, which was suggested by the P.W.D. some years ago. The arguments in favour of this scheme were that the tunnel could be made commodious enough to< afford all the shelter required! for town residents, and could be utilised for a useful purpose later on when normal times returned. It was suggested that even if the roadway was formed, and an approach to the tunnel defined, it would constitute a lead which in future yehrs could not be ignored when the Main Highway question was once again raised.
