MEAT PRODUCTION
FIVE MONTH'S KILLINGS
The official figures of killings for the present season at the Dominion's Freezing Works from October 1 till February 28, as issued by the New Zealand Meat Producers Board, show that lamb killings to that date total 6,896,1.32 carcases, this being an increase of 134,315 carcases over the killings to March 1 last season. Wether mutton killings are 407,171 carcascs, and ewe mutton killings 8.19,184 carcases, compared with 286549 and 886,216 carcases respectively last season. Details of the lamb and mutton killings in the North and the South Islands, with figures for the previous season in parentheses are as follows;— North Island l Lamb 4,126,861 (1,003,374) Wether mutton 381,717 ( 259,681) Ewe mutton 578,188 ( 690,278) South Island Lamb 2,769,271 (2,758,443) Wether mutton 25,454 ( 26,868) Ewe mutton 210,996 ( 195,938) Frozen beef production is now 128,671 quarters compared with 197,457 quarters last season. Porker killings total 78,939 carcases, an increase of 44,448, whilst baconers total 177,311 carcascs, a decrease of 46,720.
