N.Z.E.F. RUGBY
COMPETITION IN EGYPT
SEVEN TEAMS COMPETING
The first round of the New Zealand Base Camp Rugby competition, in which seven teams are competing, is now concluded, and leave the unbeaten Headquarters Group team a' clear 4 points in the lead. Headquarters, a light, compact team, have 11 points; Central Infantry are second with 7 points, closely followed by Artillery and Composite Training Depot with 6 points each. A.S.C. and Hospitals Group are next with 5 points, followed by Northern Infantry with i and Southern Infantry with '3. Troop movements have caused constant changes in teams, and Rugby fortunes have been uncertain. Headquarters have been the least affected by changes, and have built up a strong combination. The .past few Saturdays have brought real New Zealand Rugby conditions, with a chilly wind blowing and long shadows falling across the Maadi Sporting Club's ground in the late afternoon. The weekend games are usually attended liy a large gathering of soldiers. The standard of football has been generally high, and certainly the equal of senior grade in New Zealand.
