MAORIS IN HOLTS
DISTURBANCE AT TE TEKO
FTGHT IN STREET
Two young Maoris, Gilbert Edwards and Adam Brown appeared in the Whakatane Court before Messrs Brabant and Mulholland yesterday, and pleaded guilty to creating a disturbance at Te Teko. Edwards was also' charged with using obscene language. Sergeant M. Farrell said that both men were found fighting savagely in the street and had to be forcibly dragged apart by relatives. Edwards had later gone into the hotel and when requested to leave on account of his condition made use of the language complained of. It Avas unfortunate that he appeared to be running-'wild, as he came of highly respectable parents who were concerned at his behaviour. He was undoubtedly getting out of hand and needed to be taught a strict lesson. Referring to Edwards the Bench observed that it was obvious that he needed corrective treatment and he would be sentenced to one month's Imprisonment in the Whakatane gaol. Brown was fined £3 10s> and costs 27s Gd.
