CONGRATULATIONS TANEATUA
THE raising of £530 by the people of Taneatua to meet the local quota of the All Purposes Fund, is something of an achievement fo:* a settlement of its size and population. The result will set a precedent which we think will take a lot of beating. We understand that further sums'are still to come to hand, but for an initial canvass the list is definitely something to be proud of and. we extend our congratulations. The Appeal which is spread over the year is based upon population and comparative values. In many instances therefore, particularly in Whakatane persons are binding themselves to give so much per month. It will therefore be harder to assess the individual efforts made in these centres but an approximate figure sliould be possible.
Fines for Drunkenness Two Maoris who failed to appear, O'horere Tutua and Heta Mea Hohepa, were lined 10s and costs lU)s in the local Court yesterday. The offences took place at Whakatane and Te Teko respectively.
Letters Held Over Owing to pressure on our space wc have been forced to hold over letters by "Home Guardsman" and "W. Bradshaw," which Avill appear in Monday's issue.
