NEXT BALLOT
MEN AGED BETWEEN 18 TO 28
YEARS
The Minister of National Service, the Hon. R. Semple, announced that the War Cabinet had decided that approximately 17,500 men would be called up for territorial service in a Gazette to be released 1 on March 25. This will be the first call-up of married men with children.
It was previously announced that in future married men with children would be called up by age groups. On this occasion married men from 18 to 28 (both inclusive) who have children will be gazetted for service
In addition, all men of the first division, and married men without children, who have not previously been called in a ballot and who are not volunteer members of territorial units, will also be gazetied.
The men avill be medically examined as soon as possible after March 25, and those who are fit for .service will be posted to camp at very short notice. Possibly not more than seven days' notice will be given.
Consequently steps should be taken by these men to place their private and business affairs in order immediately so that they will be available for camp when required.
Appeals from service will require to be posted or delivered to the nearest manpower committee within 10 days after the date of the Gazette, that is, on or before April -1.
Employers should take this opportunity of reviewing their staffing uositions immediately so that any appeals which they consider necessary are lodged as soon as possible after March 25, but in any case not later than April 4.
