WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

ANNUAL MEETING HELD ACTIVITIES AT WAIMANA The annual meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women's Institute was held in the Waimana Hall last Wednesday afternoon. There was a fair attendance of members, Mrs Hewitt presiding. The singing of the Institute song and "God Defend New Zealand" opened the meeting. Letters were read from two men serving overseas, Don Stubbing and John Black, thanking the Women's Institute and ..Patriotic Committee for and cakes etc. received, and also a letter of thanks from Sister Lucas, in the Middle East, for old linen. The president thanked Mrs Wylde the secretary, Mrs King press correspondent, Mrs John Addison, who had obliged the committee by permitting them the use of her home. She also thanked the commitee and all members for their great co-op-eration during the past year. The competition winners for the past year were-: Best flower, Mrs F. Bell 1; Miss M. Wardlaw 2;, Mrs C. N. White 3. Best vegetable, Mrs F. Bell 1; Mrs R. Black 2; Mrs King 3. Competitions: , Mrs Hewitt 1; Mrs I. Savage 2; Mrs F .Bell 3. Otae new member was enrolled. The prizes for the competitions were donated by Mrs Hewitt, Mrs Marra and Mrs John Addison. Miss E. Wardlaw was, presented with a gift in appreciation of the knitting she had done, amounting to 50 balaclavas in under a year. The election of the new committee followed. President, Mrs Hewitt; secretary, Mrs Wylde; committee, Mrs John Addison, Mrs King, Mrs J. Wardlaw, Mrs F. Savage, Mrs Black, Mrs Hughes, Mrs W. Addison, Mrs T. Wardlaw, Mrs Marra, Mrs Gallagher. Mrs Savage on behalf of the members, presented gifts to the president and secretary in appreciation of their wonderful work for the Institute during the past year. The day's competitions Avere: Best flower, Mrs Black 1; Miss Ml Wardlaw 2: Mrs Hewitt 3. Best vegetable, Mrs Wylde 1: Mrs T. Wardlaw 2; Mrs W. Addison 3. Article from sugar bag, Mrs F. Bell 1; Mrs I. Sftvag'e 2; Mrs Hewitt 3. Bottled tomatoes, Mrs I. Savage 1; Mrs Hewitt 2; Mrs F. Bell 3. A dainty afternoon tea and the National Anthem closed the meeting.
