A tale of fantastic events in tiie desert and how a band of indignant Scotsmen garnered a fortune in food and supplies and captured nearly 200 German prisoners, is told by a Press correspondent in Cyrenaica. A Scottish Black Watch sergeant Avas doing a bit of quiet foraging in an abandoned German camp far behind the present desert -when he saAV and Avent after a pig. Barely liad the chase begun when bullets Avhizzed around his head. He saw some Germans and fired back. Then out of the desert suddenly appeared, a British major and tAA r o, capof the Germans who broke away when the shooting began. They returned to the British camp and spread the word. A battalion of Scotsmen Avent out to mop up the outfit. They Avere shot up pretty badly recently by just such a band of Germans. This time the sergeant Avas accompanied by an armoured car, trucks full of soldiers, machine gun cars and eA T erything necessary for an effective clean-up. Armed Only With a Camera -A small band of Germans Avas discovered behind sand dunes along the Mediterranean shore. They returned a feAV shots and then began surrendering. A roving South African journalist surprised nine Germans hiding in a case. They surrendered —although he Avas armed only Avitli a camera. UpAvards of 200 Germans were captured before tlic round up ended. Then the Scots tumbled upon a treasure troA'e of supplies in trucks, in eaves, under tents and spread out on the ground—everything from pistols to food and portable typewriters . There Avcre eases of fruit in tins, and chocolate. The scope of German conquests Avas measured in part by Norwegian fish, YugoslaA T sausages and French sauces. There aatis a surprise package of American tinned foods—probably from the huge stores of supplies, partly of American origin, Avhich AA r ere captured in Flanders. What happened to the pig that started all of this still isn't quite clear.
