DISTRICT FAREWELLS
MEN ON LEAVE EDGECUMBE AND THORNTON , A large assembly of friends of Pie : E. P. Magec of E,dgecumbe assemI bled in the new Edgecunibe Hall re- ' cently to honour him with a formal ■ farewell. Over a hundred people were present, and the guest of the l evening was presented with a cheque by Mr Butler, who also expressed ! the general feelings of the gathering and wished him good luck. Pte Magec suitably replied. Music and items were supplied by . Messrs M. McDonald, G. Staples, S. Price and Miss Sykes. A dainty : supper was provided by the ladies present, while a popular win of the : Monte Carlo waltz went to Mr and Mrs Butler. Home Guard Presentation , Advantage was taken of the Home , Guard gathering at Thornton iast . week to make a presentation to Pie Ross Craddock, who is now on. leave, and visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs . T. M. Craddock. of Thornton. Mr A. Robbins, on behalf of the Home Guard, referred to the fact that both Pte Craddock and his father had" been members since the inception of the local troop, and ex- . pressed regret that owing to the shortness of notice, it had not been possible to arrange a social evening. However he thought it most appropriate ' that the presentation should be made at a parade of his old comrades. Pte Magec briefly replied and thanked those present for their good wishes and presentations.
